In the age of tech and the internet, people have all the knowledge of the world in the palm of their hands, literally. For all of our problems, we have found one solution, Google.
This is the ‘Google It’ generation and people will search for almost anything and everything on it. Through the site, one can get answers to some of the most confusing questions.
But what people look for the most online is their medical symptoms and what could it mean. People search for their symptoms online first and then go see their doctors. And once they are there, they tend to share their knowledge more out of concern.
While it is natural to be curious about one’s health, this has become the cause of agitation for many medical professionals out there.
There have been times when the doctors have literally scolded their patients for overdiagnosing or self-assessing themselves.
Recently, a doctor has found an interesting way from stopping his patients from sharing their online diagnosis with them and actually listening to the consultation the doctor has to give.
This doctor gets it totally right!!! pic.twitter.com/iW9Ou8UVwO

My diagnosis, my treatment – Rs. 200
My diagnosis, your treatment- Rs.500
Your Google doubts – Rs. 1000
Your diagnosis, my treatment – Rs. 1500

Most of us would end up paying 1000 🙂 Once I put my doubts in front of the doctor. His reply as a question was so embarrassing. “Did you check this on Google ?” !!!

While many may not agree with the doctor’s take, it is to some extent true that we tend to overthink our condition. Though it is good to have some knowledge beforehand, it is always advisable to rely on professionals and their assessments.
