The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is set to introduce in-train audio advertisements across four of its busiest corridors, the Red, Yellow, Blue and Magenta lines, as it looks to strengthen its non-fare revenue streams.
According to media reports, the metro operator has floated a tender seeking an agency to manage the new advertising format. The selected agency will be responsible for producing, scheduling and broadcasting audio commercials inside trains on the identified routes.
DMRC has clarified that passenger information and safety announcements will remain the top priority, with advertisements being slotted between station announcements. The corporation is expected to regulate the frequency and duration of the commercials to ensure they do not disrupt the commuter experience.
The move comes as metro networks across the country increasingly explore alternative revenue channels beyond ticket sales, including station branding, digital screens, retail spaces and experiential advertising formats. By introducing in-train audio ads, DMRC is opening up another touchpoint for brands to reach millions of daily commuters.
The Delhi Metro is among the country’s largest rapid transit systems, recording millions of passenger journeys every day. For advertisers, the initiative presents an opportunity to engage with a captive and diverse audience during transit, while for DMRC, it represents another step towards improving financial sustainability through non-fare income.
The rollout timeline and advertising guidelines are expected to be announced after the tender process is completed.
