The Delhi High Court has barred 56 websites from unlawfully streaming two Bollywood films, Maalik and Sarbala Ji produced by Tips Films.
Justice Amit Bansal issued an order prohibiting these websites from hosting, streaming, or distributing any content owned by the production house without valid permission.
The court took action ahead of the release of Sarbala Ji, starring Ammy Virk and Gippy Grewal, on July 18, and after the release of Maalik, featuring Rajkummar Rao and Manushi Chhillar, on July 11, citing the potential for irreparable damage to the producer.
“A prima facie case is made in favour of the plaintiff. Balance of convenience is also in favour of the plaintiff and against the defendants. Further, irreparable harm or injury would be caused to the plaintiff if an interim injunction order is not passed,” the judge on July 11.
Tips Films approached the court over fears of rampant digital piracy. The company alleged that the websites not only enabled illegal access to its films but also hid their identities using domain privacy tools to avoid detection.
The court further instructed internet service providers across the country to block these 56 websites immediately. The next hearing is scheduled for November 17.
