Britannia & WPP Launch Google Gemini Powered ‘A-Eye’ To Aid Visually Impaired Shop Confidently & Independently

Britannia and WPP have rolled out A-Eye, an AI-powered solution built on Google Gemini to assist visually impaired shoppers. Piloted in partnership with MORE Retail and Mithra Jyothi, the tool turns smartphones into intelligent guides, offering voice-based navigation and real-time product information.

Britannia & WPP Launch Google Gemini Powered 'A-Eye' To Aid Visually Impaired Shop Confidently & Independently

In a commendable step towards inclusive innovation, Britannia Industries, in collaboration with WPP, has unveiled Britannia A-Eye, a pioneering initiative powered by Google Gemini and built on Vertex AI Multimodal Live, to enhance the retail experience for the visually impaired.

With a vision to democratise access to everyday retail, the pilot project has been launched in association with MORE Retail and Mithra Jyothi, a Bengaluru-based NGO dedicated to supporting the visually impaired. 

What makes this initiative even more impactful is the role played by The Logical Indian, which facilitates Britannia’s connection with Mithra Jyothi. Known for its strong positioning in cause-driven storytelling and purpose-led marketing, The Logical Indian was chosen by the brand as its exclusive media partner for the launch of this initiative.

By integrating cutting-edge AI with purpose-led partnerships, Britannia A-Eye is poised to empower the consumers with a more accessible, dignified, and independent retail journey.

Britannia A-Eye transforms an ordinary smartphone into a smart shopping assistant, enabling visually impaired users to navigate retail spaces more independently. By scanning their surroundings through their phone cameras, users receive real-time, voice-guided assistance tailored to the specific layout of each store. The AI-powered tool helps identify products and access essential details such as pricing, ingredients, nutritional information, and expiry dates, currently enabled for Britannia products, effectively removing the need for external help.

Leveraging the latest multimodal AI capabilities of Google Cloud, this innovation facilitates intuitive navigation, product recognition, and immediate access to key information, ensuring a more inclusive and empowering shopping experience.

The pilot has been conceptualised and executed by Mindshare, the global media agency, and VML, the global creative agency, with on-ground support from Mithra Jyothi. Consumers had the opportunity to experience this groundbreaking technology at the MORE Supermarket outlet in TC Palya, Bengaluru, where the pilot is currently live.
