Amazon has confirmed the reduction of approximately 14,000 corporate jobs, representing about 4% of its corporate workforce, as part of a broader restructuring effort driven by the company’s increasing use of artificial intelligence. The layoffs have affected multiple divisions, including logistics, payments, video games, and cloud computing.
The move has followed earlier signals from CEO Andy Jassy, who in June had suggested that automation and AI integration would gradually reduce headcount across departments. The internal announcement has outlined that the cuts are part of Amazon’s ongoing efforts to simplify structures, reduce bureaucracy, and redirect investments toward high-priority areas.
Amazon has stated that impacted employees have been offered 90 days to explore internal roles, along with severance packages, outplacement support, and health benefits for those unable to find alternative positions within the company. The company has also indicated plans to continue hiring in key strategic areas in 2026 while streamlining its overall operations to boost efficiency and agility.
Following the announcement, employees have taken to social media and internal chat groups to discuss affected departments, share communication updates, and seek job opportunities elsewhere.
This marks Amazon’s largest workforce reduction since the layoffs of late 2022 and early 2023, which collectively impacted more than 27,000 corporate employees. The company has reportedly adopted stricter cost-cutting measures since the summer, including curbing new hires in logistics and advertising and introducing higher attrition targets.
“The reductions we’re sharing today are a continuation of this work to get even stronger by further reducing bureaucracy, removing layers, and shifting resources to ensure we’re investing in our biggest bets,” said Beth Galetti, Senior Vice President of People Experience and Technology at Amazon.
“Some may ask why we’re reducing roles when the company is performing well. What we need to remember is that the world is changing quickly. This generation of AI is the most transformative technology we’ve seen since the Internet, and it’s enabling companies to innovate much faster than ever before,” she added.
“Looking ahead to 2026, as Andy talked about earlier this year, we expect to continue hiring in key strategic areas while also finding additional places we can remove layers, increase ownership, and realize efficiency gains.”
