Aman Gupta, co-founder of boAt Lifestyle and judge on Shark Tank India, has moved the Delhi High Court seeking protection of his personality rights. Justice Jyoti Singh has recused from hearing the matter and has directed that the suit be listed before Justice Tushar Rao Gedela on May 7.
The Court has stated that subject to orders of the judge in charge, the matter will be listed before Justice Gedela, as per media reports. Senior Advocate Diya Kapur along with Advocate Nakul Gandhi has appeared for Gupta.
It has been noted that the Court has previously protected personality rights of several public figures including Allu Arjun, Mohanlal, Aniruddhacharya, Jubin Nautiyal, Pawan Kalyan, Sunil Gavaskar, Kajol Devgan, R. Madhavan and N. T. Rama Rao Jr.. A similar suit has also been filed by Salman Khan.
Coordinate benches of the Court have also passed orders protecting personality rights of Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Nagarjuna, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan and Karan Johar.
The Court has also protected the personality rights of Sudhir Chaudhary in relation to the circulation of allegedly misleading and AI-generated videos on social media. It has further passed a John Doe order protecting the personality rights of Raj Shamani, observing that he is a known face in India, particularly in the content creation space.
