Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan has moved the Delhi High Court seeking protection of his personality rights, including his name, image, photographs, voice and performances, from being misused for commercial or personal gain.
The plea has come close on the heels of a similar petition filed by his wife Aishwarya Rai Bachchan earlier this week.
As per media reports, Bachchan’s plea has been heard today by Justice Tejas Karia, who observed that he could consider passing an order directing Google to take down specific links that violate the actor’s personality rights, provided the URLs are submitted to the Court. Bachchan’s counsel, advocate Pravin Anand, has later shared the list of such URLs, after which Justice Karia has agreed to consider the request. The matter has now been listed for further hearing on January 15, 2026.
The actor has contended that his image and persona have been morphed and misused without authorisation on several online platforms through merchandise sales, wallpapers, videos, AI-generated deepfakes and other content. His plea has sought injunctions against YouTube channels, online marketplaces such as Etsy, wallpaper sites and merchandise sellers like Bollywood Tee Shop.
Bachchan has urged the Court to restrain such entities from infringing on his publicity, personality and copyright-linked rights by misappropriating attributes tied to his identity, including his name, likeness, voice, signature and performances, for commercial or personal use. He has also sought protection against trademark infringement, unfair competition, dilution, tarnishment and defamation.
According to his counsel, sexually objectionable material, fake autographs and AI-generated content have been circulated in his name, causing insult and the potential for serious misunderstandings.
The legal team representing Abhishek Bachchan includes Pravin Anand, Ameet Naik, Madhu Gadodia, Dhruv Anand, Udita Patro, Nimrat Singh, Deveesha Tudekar, Dhananjay Khanna, Aayushi Udani, Riya Kumar and Unnati Gambani.
