The Delhi High Court has protected the personality rights of spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, restraining unknown parties from creating or circulating deepfake or AI-generated content using his image, voice, likeness, or other identifiable attributes.
The order was passed after Ravi Shankar approached the Court seeking intervention against fabricated videos, as per media reports. The content allegedly misrepresented him as promoting questionable health remedies and falsely attributed scientific claims and miraculous cures to him.
Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora has observed that irreparable harm would be caused to Ravi Shankar if such deepfake content is not restrained. The Court has directed that defendants are prohibited from using or exploiting his name, voice, image, likeness, unique style of discourse, or any other exclusive attribute for commercial or personal gain without consent.
The videos in question appeared between July and August 2025, misrepresenting Ravi Shankar’s teachings and identity and potentially misleading the public. Following his petition, the High Court has passed an interim injunction to prevent further misuse of his personality.
Senior Advocate Nikhil Sakhardande, along with Pooja Tidke, Pranav Sarthi, Ashish Venugopal, Apoorva Singh, and Prachi Dhingra, have represented Ravi Shankar in the matter. Advocates Chetanya Puri, Anand Awasthi, and Nisha Puri have represented defendants 2 and 3, while Advocates Varun Pathak, Yash Karunakaran, and Tanuj Sharma have represented defendant number 4.
