From Rooh Baba Grooving To Alan Walker’s Beats To Taking Over Streets, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3’s Marketing Pulls No Punches

With a legacy of spine-chilling laughs and iconic characters, the Bhool Bhulaiyaa franchise has cemented itself as a classic blend of horror and comedy, delivering cult-favourite moments that fans eagerly recall. This year, director Anees Bazmee has returned with Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, reviving the mischievous and mysterious world of “Rooh Baba”, played by Kartik Aaryan, now joined by an ensemble cast including Madhuri Dixit Nene, Vidya Balan, and Triptii Dimri.

The movie premiered on Diwali, November 1, 2024. As Aaryan reprises his role alongside the original “Manjulika” – Balan and some new faces, the anticipation is being masterfully stoked by immersive marketing strategies that go far beyond traditional trailers and posters.

In February, Aaryan dropped a thrilling throwback announcement featuring Balan’s ‘Aami Je Tomar’ song from the original film, teasing fans with the return of the “OG Manjulika.” This clever nod to Bhool Bhulaiyaa’s roots instantly resonated, kickstarting a social media frenzy and reuniting fans with memories of the eerie original soundtrack. As fans buzzed, Aaryan maintained momentum, posting images with co-star Triptii Dimri, the “newcomer” in the mix, sparking even more curiosity about her role in this evolving tale.

From images at iconic locations like Kolkata’s Howrah Bridge, where he posed as Rooh Baba in full costume, to lighter moments with co-star Rajpal Yadav, his posts built anticipation and mystery. And it wasn’t all solemn! A viral video featured Aaryan and Yadav in character as Rooh Baba and ‘Chhote Pandit’, taking on dance moves from Aaryan’s movie Chandu Champion. The entertaining crossover of characters and movies made waves online, boosting Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3’s appeal with humor and relatability.

The marketing took to the streets with high-octane city tours. In October, Jaipur’s famed Raj Mandir Cinema hosted the movie’s trailer launch, with Aaryan, Triptii Dimri, Vidya Balan, and Rajpal Yadav attending. The audience’s enthusiasm was unmatched, setting the stage for a series of on-ground promotions.

Aaryan made stops in Pune with Madhuri Dixit and toured schools in Hyderabad, charming students with his Rooh Baba persona. In Indore, he mingled with fans over local street foods at Chhappan market, embracing the warmth and enthusiasm of regional audiences. And to top it off, Aaryan and Balan climbed atop Kolkata’s iconic yellow taxi on Howrah Bridge, capping off the tour with a memorable display for fans.

The film’s soundtrack added a dynamic flair, with Pitbull and Diljit Dosanjh teaming up for the title track.

Aaryan’s infamous “spooky slide” became the anthem’s highlight, and the fusion of Punjabi vocals, rap, and eerie beats kept fans hooked. Recently, Aaryan even took the stage at DJ Alan Walker’s Mumbai concert to perform the hook step, engaging live with thousands of fans. He shared the energetic moment on Instagram, celebrating the song’s success and the excitement surrounding the film’s release.

The cast made appearances on popular shows, with The Great Indian Kapil Show bringing together Vidya Balan, Kartik, Triptii Dimri, and the director, Anees Bazmee, in a Diwali-themed episode.

Adding a playful spook factor, Aaryan and Balan took their Bhool Bhulaiyaa vibes to Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) as well, where the set was made Halloween-ready, fitting perfectly for the season.

Moreover, the marketing strategy cleverly aligned with both Diwali and Halloween falling on the same day this year, creating a fusion of festivity and fright. One of the leading influencers, Kusha Kapila, joined in the fun, by sharing a transformation post from a Diwali-ready look to a “Manjulika”-inspired appearance, with Ghoshal’s ‘Ami Je Tomar’ song in the background. The post, combining tradition and horror, caught social media by storm, blending cultural resonance with thematic creativity.
