Ahead of the festive season, Amazon India has announced its plan of reducing its selling fees in- ranging from 3 to 12%– across 59 product subcategories on its marketplace, not just temporarily but to pave way for long-term success even beyond the festivities.
Effective September 9, this revision is part of the e-commerce major’s bid to strengthen its relationship with sellers of all sizes as it offers them a timely boost whilst they gear up for the upcoming festive season by helping them expand their product portfolio on Amazon’s online shopping platform.
As per the company blogpost, the new rate card will particularly benefit sellers offering affordable products priced below Rs 500 as it will reduce the cost for the sellers when it comes to product divisions such as home furnishing (9% drop), indoor lighting (8% drop), and home products (8% drop).
Sharing an example to elaborate on the same, the company mentioned, “For instance, a seller offering printed T-shirts at Rs 299 will now pay a reduced referral fee of just 2%, a substantial drop from the previous fee of 13.5%, resulting in savings of Rs 34 per unit for the seller.”
Additionally, low-priced products like women’s wear, home and apparel, kitchen and housewares, wireless accessories, office products, sports and recreation, shoes, luggage, pet supplies, jewelry, beauty products, watches, and many more will also have lower referral fees.
As per the company blogpost, the e-commerce major has also revised the weight handling fee for fulfillment centres and Amazon fulfillment programs such as Seller Flex and Easy Ship, basis the sellers’ applicable STEP levels (a performance-based reward program that evaluates sellers on five key customer input metrics and classifies them into- Basic, Standard, Advanced, and Premium).
Amit Nanda, Director, Selling Partner Services, Amazon India, said, “At Amazon, we are invested in supporting businesses of all sizes, from small and medium businesses to emerging entrepreneurs to established brands. The fee reduction is directly in response to feedback from our sellers, especially small businesses.”
“With this, we’re taking a significant step towards creating a more seller-friendly ecosystem,” he added.
