Cannes Lions 2024: India’s Creative Contingent Secures 59 Shortlists; Leo Burnett Leads The Chart With 16 Selected Entries

With Cannes Lions 2024 announcing its sixth and final shortlist today, India’s Creative Contingent added five more selected entries in Sustainable Development Goals Lions, moving up the country’s overall shortlist tally from 54 to 59. Leading India’s shortlist chart was Leo Burnett Mumbai with 16 selected entries, followed by Ogilvy Mumbai and McCann Gurugram at 11, and VML Mumbai at 10.

Cannes Lions 2024: India’s Creative Contingent Secures 59 Shortlists; Leo Burnett Leads The Chart With 16 Selected Entries

As the sixth and final shortlist for the 71st edition of Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity 2024 is announced today, India’s creative contingent has added five more selected entries to its kitty. 

In the Sustainable Development Goals Lions, there were three entries from Leo Burnett Mumbai and two entries from McCann Gurugram which made the cut.

Here are the selected entries from India in the sixth shortlist announcement:

  1. Sustainable Development Goals Lions

A01 (Good Health and Well-being) 

a. P&G Whisper’s ‘PERIOD SCIENCE FOR MOMS’ by Leo Burnett Mumbai

b. Buckaroo Footware’s ‘FIT MY FEET SLIPPERS’ by McCann Gurugram

A04 (Quality Education)

a. P&G Whisper’s ‘PERIOD SCIENCE FOR MOMS’ by Leo Burnett Mumbai

A05 (Gender Equality)

a. ESAF Small Finance Bank’s ‘DABBA SAVINGS ACCOUNT’ by McCann Gurugram

B04 (Responsible Consumption and Production)

a. Lay’s ‘DROPS OF JOY’ by Leo Burnett Mumbai

With this, India’s overall shortlist tally for the 71st edition of Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity has now gone up from 54 to 59 selected entries across 30 categories. 

Here is an agency-wise breakup of all the shortlists secured by India’s Creative Contingent this year at Cannes Lions:

  1. Leo Burnett Mumbai- 16
  2. McCann Worldgroup Gurugram and Ogilvy Mumbai- 11 each (including 1 shared shortlist between Ogilvy and Rapport Outdoor Advertising)
  3. VML Mumbai- 10
  4. FCB Kinnect Mumbai and Dentsu Creative Gurgaon- 3 each
  5. Early Man Film and Kondurkar Studio- 2
  6. Brand David Communications Mumbai, DDB Mudra Group Mumbai, FCB India and Tgthr- 1 each

A shortlist-wise glimpse into India’s shortlists in the 71st edition of the Festival

In the first shortlist announcement for Cannes Lions 2024 which included three categories- The Dan Wieden Titanium Lion, Glass: The Lion Of Change and Innovation Lion, India’s creative contingent secured a total of three shortlists with one selected entry each from Leo Burnett India, tgthr and McCann Worldgroup making the cut on June 4, 2024. 

A few days later, on June 15, Cannes Lions 2024 announced the second shortlist for six categories- Audio & Radio, Film Craft, Health & Wellness, Outdoor, Pharma and Print & Publishing Lions wherein Ogilvy Mumbai and VML Mumbai secured 4 shortlists each, followed by McCann Gurugram at 3, and Dentsu Creative Gurgaon and Early Man Film with 2 entries each.

In the third shortlists for the coveted awards gala which was announced on June 16 for eleven categories including Design, Digital Craft, Direct, Entertainment, Entertainment Lions For Gaming, Entertainment Lions For Music, Entertainment Lions For Sport, Industry Craft, Media, PR and Social & Influencer Lions, VML Mumbai won 6 more shortlists, Leo Burnett Mumbai- 4, followed by Ogilvy Mumbai (including 1 shared shortlist with Rapport Outdoor Advertising) and FCB Kinnect Mumbai with 3 shortlists each, McCann Gurugram- 2 and Dentsu Creative Gurugram and DDB Mudra Group Mumbai at 1 each.

A day later, in the fourth shortlist announcement for three categories- Brand Experience & Activation, Creative B2B and Creative Data Lions, Leo Burnett Mumbai secured 4 shortlists, followed by 2 selected entries from McCann Gurugram and Ogilvy Mumbai and FCB India Gurugram at 1 entry each.

Furthermore, in the fifth shortlist which was announced yesterday across six categories such as Audio & Radio, Health & Wellness, Lions Health Grand Prix for Good, Outdoor, Pharma and Print & Publishing Lions, India’s overall tally furthered to 54 selected entries as Leo Burnett Mumbai secured four more shortlists, followed by three selected entries from Ogilvy Mumbai and one selected entry from Brand David Communications.

Concludingly, in the sixth and final shortlist that was announced today for the category-  Sustainable Development Goals Lions, Leo Burnett Mumbai secured three shortlists, followed by one each from McCann Gurugram and Ogilvy Mumbai, leading the overall shortlist tally of India’s Creative Contingent to 59 selected entries. 

As against last year wherein a total of 809 entries were sent by the Indian Creative Contingent to Cannes Lions, this year a total of 836 entries were sent to the Festival.
