The year 2022 saw the rise and soar of many businesses, in spite of a difficult start due to the then ongoing pandemic phase and its after-effects on business.
The year also gave India promising new entrants on the business map.
And though the cumulative wealth of Indian billionaires increased by 9.4%, their average wealth decreased by 1%. In short, the year 2022 was full of surprises.

The Gainers
Gautam Adani took the business world by storm, overtaking Mukesh Ambani to become the richest Indian. He also created history by becoming the third richest person in the world, albeit for a short duration in 2022.
149 individuals entered the IIFL HURUN India Rich List, all of whom have a wealth of INR 1000 crore and up.
The number of women entrepreneurs saw a rise, with 55 of them featured on this list.

The Givers
HCL founder and Chairman Shiv Nadar emerged as the top giver this year, with donations amounting to around INR 1161 crore, almost INR 3 crore per day.
He is followed by Wipro’s founder Azim Premji and Mukesh Ambani according to the EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2022.
The youngest philanthropist on the list is Zerodha co-founder Nikhil Kamath, who along with his brother Nithin Kamath increased their donations by 300% to INR 100 crore.
This year also had 6 women featured on the list of the year’s top philanthropists including the likes of Rohini Nilekani, Leena Gandhi Tewari, and Anu Aga.

149 new billionaires made a swooning entry on the IIFL Wealth Hurun India Rich List 2022.
3 of the top ten positions are held by The Vakil family of Asian Paints- Nehal Abhay Vakil, Vivek Vakil, and Bhairavi Vakil ranked first, fourth and seventh respectively.
Ashwini Desai of Ather industries, Faizal Kottikolon, Alla Ayodhya Rami Reddy of the Ramky Group, and JK Cements’ Madhavkrishna and Raghavpat Singhania also made it to the top ten new entrants list.
Top Under 40 entrepreneurs
Nikhil Kamath topped the IIFL Wealth Hurun India 40 & Under Self-Made Rich List 2022′ with a net worth of Rs 17,500 crore. He is followed by Ola founder Bhavish Aggarwal and Divyank Turakhia of Media.net.
The 19-year-old co-founder of Zepto- Kaivalya Vohra is the youngest self-made male entrepreneur with a net worth amounting to INR 1000 crore.
Neha Narkhede, the co-founder of Confluent is the youngest female self-made entrepreneur with INR 4700 crore.
