Along with India’s economy, its road traffic has increased rapidly in the last decade. Though it is good to see more and more Indians are now capable of improving their standards of living, it does pose a lot of work on the traffic police. India has a high volume of traffic on the road and non-adherence of traffic rules by commuters often leads to a chaotic situation. Rush hours are particularly worse.
The traffic police of every city in the country try their best to control the situation by implementing strict traffic rules time and again. This has been helpful to some extent but the commuters needed something more for encouragement. Pune traffic police have come up with an innovative idea to boost this encouragement.
Under आभार, ABHAAR a unique and innovative idea by Pune traffic , 9595 discount vouchers r distributed in last 36 days 2 people who were checked and found to be ćout any challan.
It is only symbolic. Salute to all the people who respect traffic rules.
Let us make difference. https://t.co/TMixNuZTB8 pic.twitter.com/dWMVRTWeJT— CP Pune City (@CPPuneCity) July 7, 2019
They have tied up with online delivery platforms like Swiggy and Zomato to reward Pune citizens with discount coupons for following traffic rules. The traffic police will identify rule-conscious motorists and reward them with up to 50 percent discount coupons on the spot. These coupons can be redeemed on the online food delivery platform like Zomato and Swiggy.
This step was implemented shortly after the Aabhar Yojana became operational on 14 June. The Yojna was launched with the aim of rewarding motorists who keep the documents in a proper way. Under the scheme, about 10,000 coupons and discount vouchers have already been handed out to law-abiding commuters.
The initiative started by the Pune traffic police will serve a dual purpose it seems. It will not only help the traffic police department to improve the traffic conditions and road safety of the commuters but also will serve as an ad campaign for Zomato & Swiggy.
The initiative is pretty much impressive and creative on Pune Traffic Pollice’s part. But it seems a little strange that the police have to bribe commuters to take their own safety seriously. Something we should be doing ourselves without being asked to do so.
