Zee Entertainment Enterprises (ZEEL) has announced the appointment of R. Gopalan as a Non-Executive, Non-Independent Director, following the completion of his second term as Independent Director on November 24, 2025.
A seasoned administrator, Gopalan has served on ZEE’s board since 2019, also holding the position of Chairman of the Board for the past six years. He has brought over four decades of experience in economic policy, finance, and governance to ZEE’s leadership.
Before joining ZEE, Gopalan had served as Secretary in the Departments of Economic Affairs and Financial Services at the Ministry of Finance and held key positions in the Ministry of Commerce and Industries. He has also been part of the boards of RBI, LIC, and served as India’s Alternate Director at the World Bank and Asian Development Bank.
ZEE has stated that his appointment has been approved by the Board based on the recommendation of the Nomination and Remuneration Committee, and that no further approval from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting is required as it had been obtained during his initial appointment in 2019.
The company has also confirmed that Gopalan is not debarred by any regulatory authority and will be liable to retire by rotation in line with governance norms.
With this development, ZEE has continued to reinforce its board with leadership that combines institutional experience and a deep understanding of economic and corporate governance, an approach that has been central to its ongoing transformation journey.
