While loans and credit cards may seem like an easy option in the moment of need, it can really build up some financial pressure leading to stress and extreme actions.
It is only recently a 35 year old man allegedly committed suicide by jumping off the terrace of a building in Shahdara’s Jagatpuri area after failing to pay his credit card bills.
The incident took place on 22nd July when Suresh Kumar headed to the terrace of his building at 3 am in the morning and jumped off the building holding her 4 year old minor daughter in his hands. His wife who was following him and witnessed the incident with her own eyes followed him and jumped off the terrace.
While Suresh died, his wife Manjeet Kaur and daughter survived with injuries.
In her statement to police, Kaur said her husband had several credit cards of different banks and had a loan of Rs 8 lakh on his head and was under stress as the banks kept calling and texting him everyday to pay the amount.
Police was informed by the family’s neighbours after they saw the trio was found lying on the road after which they were rushed to GTB hospital where Kumar was declared brought dead.
When Kaur jumped from the terrace, she hit an electric wire which broke her momentum due to which she received minor injuries, a senior police officer said.
The condition of both the mother and daughter is stated to be stable by the police authorities while Kumar’s body was handed over to his family members after post-mortem.
What remains the bigger question is that if credit cards and loans are worth so much of pain!
