World Airport Awards has released the names of the winners for the year 2021. Though the pandemic has had a huge impact on the aviation industry, the global airports were the first to adapt to the change and implement the necessary precautions.
These awards recognize the efforts of global airports in adapting and meeting the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Despite facing the financial challenge due to the limited number of flights operating and scarcity of regular passengers, the airports have invested a lot to provide the safest possible environment for their customers and staff during the global pandemic.
The World Airport Awards 2021 has released the list of top 100 Airports in the world. Out of those, these are the top 10 winners of 2021.
1. Hamad International Airport
At the 2021 World Airport Awards, Hamad International Airport was awarded as the ‘Best Airport in the Middle East’, ‘the World’s Best Airport in the 25 to 35 million Passenger category’, and for the ‘Best Airport Staff in the Middle East’.
Hamad International Airport is the only international airport in the state of Qatar.
2. Tokyo Haneda Airport
Tokyo Haneda Airport is ranked No 2 in the world. It has won the title as the Best Airport in Asia, the World’s Best Domestic Airport, the World’s Best Airport Cleanliness, and the Best Airport PRM / Accessible Facilities in 2021.
3. Singapore Changi Airport
Singapore Changi Airport is a major civilian airport in Singapore and is one of the largest transportation hubs in Asia. It is one of the world’s busiest airports by international passenger and cargo traffic. Changi Airport is the only airport in the world to be named as the World’s Best Airport by Skytrax for eight consecutive years.
4. Incheon International Airport
Placed on fourth, Incheon International Airport is the largest airport in South Korea. It is the primary airport serving the Seoul Capital Area and one of the largest and busiest airports in the region.
5. Narita International Airport
Narita International Airport, also known as Tokyo-Narita, is the secondary international airport in the Greater Tokyo Area of Japan and the closest international airport to the cities of Narita, Kozaki, and Tomisato
6. Munich Airport
Munich Airport is the second-busiest airport in Germany in terms of passenger traffic after Frankfurt Airport, and the ninth-busiest airport in Europe, handling 47.9 million passengers in 2019.
7. Zurich Airport
Zurich Airport is the largest international airport in Switzerland and the principal hub of Swiss International Air Lines.
8. London Heathrow Airport
London Heathrow is a major international airport in London, England, and is one of six international airports serving the London region.
9. Kansai International Airport
Kansai International Airport is the primary international airport in the Greater Osaka Area of Japan and the closest international airport to the cities of Osaka, Kyoto, and Kobe
10. Hong Kong International Airport
Hong Kong International Airport was able to secure its place in the top 10 airports of the world. The airport is also referred to as Chek Lap Kok International Airport or Chek Lap Kok Airport, to distinguish it from its predecessor, the former Kai Tak Airport.
