Coronavirus pandemic has taken over the world and is hampering us in every way possible. While its medical implications have been devastating, the economic shock has left many countries struggling to cope up.
Many people have been left unemployed while many are stranded on the roads in the country. Even though the government has been launching initiatives to help the needy and even many NGOs have been trying to serve as many people as possible, there are still a huge number of people who are unable to get any help.
There are many people who do not belong to any NGOs or government organizations but are contributing in their own way to help as many people as possible.
K Kamalathal is one such frontline hero who has been helping the needy in her own way. She is an 85-year-old woman from Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, who has been selling her homemade idlis for Rs 1 and refuses to raise the prices for the people who cannot afford to pay.
Defying her old age, she is committed to helping the poor. For the past 30 years, K Kamalathal wakes up in the wee hours and starts the preparation of her delicious home-made idlis. She has kept the price the same over all these years.
Even after the prices of the ingredients have surged after the pandemic hit the Indian economy, the 85-year-old has said that she will try her best to keep the price the same though she did say that it has become difficult for her to keep up with the expense.
Her hard work has not gone unheard. In fact, in 2019, Anand Mahindra had shared her story on his Twitter handle and even expressed his desire to invest in her business and help her expand.
One of those humbling stories that make you wonder if everything you do is even a fraction as impactful as the work of people like Kamalathal. I notice she still uses a wood-burning stove. If anyone knows her I’d be happy to ‘invest’ in her business & buy her an LPG fueled stove. pic.twitter.com/Yve21nJg47
