No one would have thought that the impact of coronavirus would come that far. The global economy has been witnessing slowdown, billionaires losing billions every day, major global events are getting cancelled, and now, it comes to one of the world’s super-rich sports leagues. There has been speculation over the IPL 2020! Whether it will continue or cancel?
BCCI President, Sourav Ganguly, told ESPN Cricinfo, “It’s on…and BCCI will take all protection (against coronavirus).”
Will people reach stadium to watch IPL matches continued considering the havoc Coronavirus has caused?
PM Modi on Wednesday morning tweeted, “Experts across the world have advised to reduce mass gatherings to avoid the spread of COVID-19 Novel Coronavirus. Hence, this year I have decided not to participate in any Holi Milan programme.”
In India, there are 31 confirmed cases of COVID-19 (Coronavirus). Among them, 28 cases have been confirmed within the last week. And considering cancellation, postponing and shortening of major global events, IPL 2020 may find a hard time surviving the scare of COVID-19.
Last weekend, Tokyo Marathon was reduced to just 200 professional marathoners running despite 38,000 registrations. Expo 2020 scheduled for 20 October in Dubai is also facing the scare of coronavirus. Mobile World Conference has already been cancelled which was scheduled for February 24-27. Facebook Global Marketing Summit scheduled for March 9-12 in San Francisco, U.S, was also canceled. Like this, there are numerous events, which were not able to survive the scare of coronavirus.
Well, it is quite a tricky situation. There are only three weeks left until the opener of IPL 2020. BCCI president has assured the nation that the BCCI will take all protection against coronavirus. Hope the best decision will be made.
