Environmental problems have been looming over us since long. In recent years, the world has reached a tipping point, and we need to take immediate corrective actions right from grassroot levels.
Climate change, waste management, various types of pollutions, shortage of water etc, the list of problems is long. While it is imperative that we all contribute towards remedying these problems, many celebs have already embarked on this route by backing several sustainability and other startups that are working towards handling environmental problems.
Here are six individuals who have invested in such startups.
1. Dia Mirza- Beco
Beco is a Mumbai-based direct-to-consumer (D2C) brand that manufactures eco-friendly and cost-efficient products like degradable garbage bags, bamboo toothpicks and even earbuds.
A true eco-warrior, Dia Mirza was one of their first customers and along with promoting the brand, has invested in the startup along with other investors like Amir Khan, Rohit Sharma, Bhumi Pednekar and Ranbir Kapoor.
2. Alia Bhatt- Phool.co
Bollywood’s leading lady, Alia Bhatt has invested in a D2C startup Phool.co.
Phool.co collects floral waste from temples and mosques and converts them into charcoal-free luxury incense sticks, patented organic fertilizer and other wellness products.
3. Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli- Blue Tribe
The power couple are known to be serial investors and have backed several homegrown startups.
One investment that stands out is that in Blue Tribe, a plant-based meat startup that offers products such as frozen minced chicken, chicken nuggets, keema, sausages, and momos.
Though these products are plant-based, they exhibit characteristics like those of taste, look, feel and cook just like meat.
4. Genelia and Riteish Deshmukh-
The adorable Bollywood couple Genelia and Riteish Deshmukh launched Imagine Meats, a plant-based meat brand in 2020.
After turning to veganism, the couple resolved to create a world that makes healthier and conscious eating choices. Imagine Meats is their brainchild and it offers cruelty-free
meat and meat-based products like biryanis, kebabs, nuggets, sausages and more.
5. Shilpa Shetty Kundra
Shilpa Shetty has invested in a number of startups. One of her startups that is working towards environmental concerns is Indian skincare startup brand Mamaearth.
Mamaearth claims to plant trees for every order that they receive. They plan to plant a million trees by 2025.
6. Deepika Padukone- Atomberg and BluSmart
Another prominent investor in startups, actor Deepika Padukone has invested in energy-efficiency startup Atomberg Technologies, which is a manufacturer of smart and energy-
efficient household appliances
She is also an investor in an e-mobility startup BluSmart.
