Prasar Bharati is sourcing content for Akashvani, DD Channels, and its WAVES OTT platform under the Content Sourcing Policy 2024. The Pay-Per-View Framework, launched in 2025, covers content acquisition for digital and OTT platforms, including WAVES, reflecting the broadcaster’s strategic transition from traditional television and radio broadcasting to digital-first content delivery. This initiative has enabled Prasar Bharati to tailor content for digital audiences and significantly increase engagement among younger viewers.
Following a notification from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), all television sets sold in India are now required to have a built-in satellite tuner. Accordingly, the proposal for distributing DD Free Dish set-top boxes (STBs) is no longer being pursued.
Currently, Doordarshan has 1,994 vacancies and All India Radio Kendras (Akashvani) in the North Eastern region have 1,636 vacancies.
Prasar Bharati has also engaged an expert agency to improve the monetization of its land assets.
