OnePlus India on Twitter recently ended up in a rather funny debacle which involved tweeting about something which was far from the brand’s purview. Rather, it ended up gaining traffic for its competitor, Samsung!
And how did that happen?
In a classic case of a social media team handling two accounts, the post which was to go on Samsung’s account ended up getting tweeted on One Plus India’s! Or so it’s believed.
One Plus India has been promoting its latest product, the OnePlus Nord 2 5G quite aggressively on social media. However, in a recent turn of events, the brand ended up tweeting about a Samsung product instead. The tweet spoke about the SPen that accompanies the Galaxy Note 20 and praised the product in all its glory. Along with a video of the device, the tweet also ran a poll that mentioned the various aspects of the smartphone.
It’s safe to say that this goof-up caught the Twitterati’s attention and ended up leaving a host of assumptions and fervour amongst netizens. While some assumed a possible collaboration, quite many were quick to assume that the Twitter account had been hacked. OnePlus India ultimately took the tweet down and tweeted another one which said that if Samsung were to also post an “Accidental” promo for their Nord 2 5G, that’d be great!
You're welcome @SamsungMobile. If you wanna send an "accidental" tweet for the Nord 2, we'd be cool with it 🤗

The Twitterati community went rife with all the assumptions and people soon started reacting to the accidental tweet.

I don't think it was an "accidental" tweet rather it was intentional…to grab everyone's attention..!!
It's a new way of marketing, you never know with marketing teams these days, anything can be done to get everyone's attention to you/your products..!!— 🆈🄾🅶🄴🆂🄷 🅷🄸🆁🄴 (@iamYogesh09) July 8, 2021

Oh man !! I feel for that Agency guy who "accidentally" posted this…but if it's not a accident than i must say it's a great strategy

One Plus also joined the fun banter reprimanding One Plus India for the goof-up.

The comeback was one that saved the day, definitely and calmed the frenzy which the brand had ended up creating amongst its audience. However, the timing is definitely not apt since the brand is anyway quite surrounded with controversy revolving around the performance of applications on its OnePlus 9 series.
What do you think of this debacle?
