Brands using photos, images, and videos of Indian Olympic medalists in congratulatory marketing and advertisements without sponsoring the athletes are set to face legal notices for violating personality rights.
As per media reports, Manu Bhaker, a 22-year-old shooter who clinched a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics recently, has received a wave of congratulatory wishes from brands that have never sponsored or been affiliated with her in any capacity.
IOS Sports & Entertainment, the agency overseeing Bhaker, is pursuing legal action against brands that have used her photos and videos in congratulatory advertisements without securing sponsorship, media reports stated.
Several brands aligned themselves with Bhaker’s achievement, including Bajaj Foods, LIC, FIITJEE, Oakwood International School, Praneet Group, Radha TMT, Apricot Bioscience, Kineto, Xtrabrick Realtors, and Parul Ayurved Hospital.
Currently, Bhaker endorses only Performax Activewear, a company specialising in sports gear and fitness fashion. However, she is in talks with other brands for potential endorsement or sponsorship deals.
