Rayees Ahmad or better known as ‘Kashmir’s Swiggy Boy’, has taken the responsibility of keeping everyone away from junk food and delivering home-cooked food to everyone in the Valley. A 29-year old from Srinagar, his venture, Tiffin Aaw which means that the meal has arrived is a promise of providing food to all those who are missing home food or aren’t able to get it.
This journey started during the abrogation of Article 370 when he got a call late at night from one of his friends saying he needed food and that he hadn’t eaten anything since morning. Rayees packed some food from his kitchen in a tiffin and delivered it to his friend on his two-wheeler. A few days later, after collecting the tiffin box the idea of delivering home-cooked food to those in need struck him and Tiffin Aaw came into being.
Owing to the pandemic, the operations of Tiffin Aaw were halted, however, Rayees got a call from one Kashmir-based doctor in Delhi, asking him to cook meals for his elderly parents since he wasn’t in town. His team consists of 5 people, all of whom have lost jobs because of the pandemic.
His food comes at affordable prices, both veg and non-veg as per the customer’s choice and costs 100rs per plate. Kashmiri cuisine is also incorporated in the menu, dishes like Al-Yakin, Haak Maaz, Alhach Maz and others.
His future plans include creating a Tiffin Aaw app so that customers can pre-book their orders instead of making calls. He also plans on moving out of the Valley and expanding his operation pan India, starting with covering all J&K districts.
When asked why people call him ‘Kashmir’s Swiggy Boy’, he said, “I have never been inspired by the Zomato or Swiggy as this was my own idea. It is also because people here don’t get services like Swiggy and others and then they may be treating my service same like them,”
