After a lull in 2020, owing to the pandemic and subsequent lockdown, 2021 proved to be a good year for businesses and especially startups turning into unicorns. On an average, 4 startups became unicorns every month last year. With Fintech and ecommerce companies being favorites for investors, nine tech startups got listed on the public market. It is reported that this increasing trend of unicorns is likely to continue in 2022 as well.
Here is a list of probable startups that may turn unicorns this year
Fintech
India saw 11 fintech companies turn into unicorns last year. CRED, Groww, Upstox, BharatPe and Acko were some of them.
More fintech companies are likely to enter the $1 billion club this year. A few of them are:
1. Jupiter- a company making banking simple with digital solutions.
2.OneCard- a mobile-first credit card company with current valuation of $720 million
3. Smallcase- a wealth management and investment company with a current valuation of $200 million
4.Clear aka ClearTax- With current valuation of 4800 million and 5 million user-base, it is an IT solutions company for financial services.
E-Commerce
With more shopping happening online, e-commerce companies, just like financial services companies are at their peak. Be it home delivery services, or cosmetics, almost ever item is available online these days.
Last year, 11 e-commerce companies like Meesho, Cars24, Licious and Mensa Brands became unicorns.
This year investors are hoping for Purplle, a cosmetics and personal care platform to enter the unicorn club. And also, Freshtohome, a meat and seafood delivery company.
Quick Commerce
This sector includes those companies that are making e-commerce easier. And many companies are touted to enter the unicorn club this year from this sector.
1.Dunzo- A delivery platform that delivers almost anything to people at their doorstep
2. Zepto-a 10-minute grocery delivery app
3. ShipRocket- It offers automated shipping solutions
4. GreyOrange- A company offering warehouse automation solutions
