Filmmaker and producer Karan Johar approached the Delhi High Court seeking protection of his personality and publicity rights.
The plea has come up for hearing before Justice Manmeet P.S. Arora, who has sought clarifications from Johar’s counsel and has listed the matter for further proceedings.
As per media reports, Johar also urged the court to pass an order directing certain websites and platforms not to sell merchandise such as mugs and t-shirts that have carried his name and image without permission.
Senior advocate Rajshekhar Rao, appearing for Johar, said, “I have a right to ensure that no one unauthorisedly uses my persona, face or voice.”
The right to publicity, popularly known as personality rights, has been defined as the right to protect, control and profit from one’s image, name or likeness.
