While celebrity endorsements have been in trend for a long time, the new trend has been that of celebrity investments. With many celebrities associating themselves and investing in brands and startups, businesses too benefit with the potential of strong returns.
Here is a list of some top celebrity investors in the country.
1. Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma
The power couple has invested in quite a few startups and brands.
Anushka Sharma has invested an undisclosed amount in Wholsum Foods and is also the brand ambassador of their front-runner brand -Slurrp Farm.
Over the years, Virat has invested in a number of brands, like, Rage Coffee, Chisel Fitness, Nueva, the Goa FC, and even Galactus Funware Technology Pvt Ltd.
Both, Virat and Anushka have their own fashion brands-Wrogn and Nush respectively.
Together, they have bought a stake of 2.2 crores in a new-age general insurance company, Digit. They are also an angel investor in Blue Tribe, a homegrown plant-based meat product brand.
2. Priyanka Chopra
The ‘Quantico’ star has made a number of investments in upcoming startups and brands. Chopra has invested in an online marketplace for real estate, that provides apartment listings.
She also has investments in skiwear brand- Perfect Moment, a virtual avatar company- Genies, a vegan and cruelty-free haircare brand- Anomaly Haircare, and a restaurant chain ‘Sona’ along with ‘Sona Home’-a home décor brand focusing on Indian culture and heritage.
She also has investments in the dating app Bumble and Holberton School.
3. Alia Bhatt
Alia Bhatt launched Ed-a-mamma, a children’s clothing brand.
She has also invested in lifestyle retail brand Nykaa and a D2C startup Phool. co, that collects floral waste and recycles them to make incense products.
She also has a stake in Stylecracker, a fashion styling startup.
4. Deepika Padukone
Deepika Padukone has invested in a number of businesses, including space tech startup Bellatrix Aerospace along with BluSmart, an electric vehicle startup.
Atomberg Technologies has also received an undisclosed amount of investment from her and so has Furlenco, a furniture rental platform.
Padukone has also invested in a learning-based startup FrontRow. She also has a stake in Drums Food International, of which Epigamia is a star brand.
5. Sachin Tendulkar
The master -blaster of Indian cricket, Sachin Tendulkar has been quite an active investor and has also found many startups.
His investments in startups include an IoT company-Smartron, an entertainment platform- Smaaash Entertainment, and a gaming and entertainment company-JetSynthesys.
Sachin has also invested in a used-car retail platform-Spinny, and also holds a stake in S Drive and Sach, a joint venture between Future Group and Manipal group.
He has also found True Blue, a men’s apparel brand, and SRT Sports Management Private Limited.
6. Katrina Kaif
Katrina Kaif’s makeup brand- KAY Beauty was launched in partnership with the retail platform Nykaa. She had reportedly invested INR 2 crores in Nykaa, and earned INR 22 crores, after the cosmetic retail brand’s IPO.
7. Kajal Agarwal
Kajal Aggarwal picked up a 15% stake in gaming startup Okie Gaming. The gaming platform is a subsidiary of Okie Ventures, and the actress is also the brand ambassador for the same.
8. Suniel Shetty
Suniel Shetty has shares in fitness community brand SQUATS and edutech business SAI Estate Consultants. He also has a stake in fitness startup FITTR, along with Beardo, a men’s grooming startup.
