Social media network Facebook revealed 2 new programmes for promoting new technologies like virtual reality in India. These programmes are focussed on startups and engineering students of the country. Both of these programmes India Innovation Hub and School of Innovation will run parallel to the other startup based initiatives like FbStart that Facebook is currently running in India.
India has the most number of developers for Facebook outside the US and Facebook is considering Indian engineers important for the future plans. Facebook is focussing on the virtual reality and has also launched a new VR device ‘Oculus Go’ for the users which costs around $199.
Satyajeet Singh, Facebook Head of Platform Partnerships (India and South Asia) said “The partnerships demonstrate our commitment to contribute to India’s innovation ecosystem and make emerging technologies like VR a part of daily life.”
Virtual reality is important for the marketers as well as it brings better user engagement that will lead to increase in online sales for the big companies. The India Innovation Hub will see Facebook work with 10 new virtual reality-based startups which will include industries like healthcare, education, automobiles.
These startups will get training, workshops, and Facebook’s VR Innovation lab in the programme. The application process for these programmes will start from January 2018. Such programmes can really help Indian students to learn about the new technologies.
