Of all the possible absurd reasons that people could have been fired for, you wouldn’t think an emoji could be one.
Well, the use of a simple emoji recently got a Chinese employee in trouble and was later fired for having replied to her boss with an “OK” emoji to her boss on a messaging app.
Apparently the manager of the bar in Changsha had asked the employee to send some meeting documents, to which the employee replied with the ok emoji.
The employer replied with a fiery text which read, “You should use text to reply to the message if you have received it. Don’t you know the rules? Is this your acknowledgement?”
The things then escalated quickly and absurdly as he asked the employee to contact the human resource department and sort out her resignation.
The employee said, ““The resignation is still being processed. I have worked for many years and this is my first encounter with this kind of stupid situation. I am good-tempered therefore I didn’t retaliate.”
And we’re left yet again speechless!
