Burger King adds a variety of unhappy meals to its American menu and no it’s not a dig at the rival brand McDonald’s.
With May being observed as the mental health month in the US, the QSR chain Burger King has partnered with Mental Health America (an organization for mental health support) to spread awareness around the issue.
In its latest campaign #FeelYourWay, the brand stresses the idea that it’s okay to be unhappy and feel however you are feeling. Worth a mention is the fact that instead of the flashy and attractive packaging of a food brand, the new boxes are rather dull. Meal variants include – Pissed meal, YAAAS meal, DGAF meal, Salty meal, Blue meal – all of which refer to ‘bad mood situations.

Mental Health America and Burger King both took to Twitter to convey the same to the people with a video that opens with the copy, “Not everybody wakes up happy. Sometimes you feel sad, scared crappy. All I ask is that you let me feel my way…”

We teamed up with @BurgerKing to bring #mentalhealth awareness to the table. Feelings aren't facts, but they're real and so are you. It's ok to not be ok, so #FeelYourWay this #MentalHealthMonth. pic.twitter.com/99FTQcqCIB

Burger King also posted a picture of it’s newly added unhappy meals saying “not sure who needed to hear this today, but it’s ok not be happy all the time. all that matters is that you #FeelYourWay.”

“A natural extension of encouraging people to ‘be their way’ is encouraging them to “feel their way.” With the pervasive nature of social media, there is quite a bit of pressure to appear happy and perfect. With Real Meals, the Burger King brand celebrates being yourself and feeling however you want to feel,” says the Burger King team in a press release.
