Reliance Industries Ltd. (RIL) has made several acquisitions, especially in the past three years. Be it media and education, retail, telecom or even internet services, Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance is leaving no stone unturned in expanding its portfolio and boosting its product offerings.

Let’s take a look at some brands, that we never thought, have been acquired and are being managed by Reliance today.

1. Mandarin Oriental, New York

Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries Limited bought a 73.37% stake in Mandarin Oriental New York. It is a luxury hotel now majorly held by Reliance Industrial Investments and Holdings Limited (RIIHL), which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of RIL.

2. Hamleys

Reliance acquired Hamleys, a British multinational and the world’s oldest toy retailer in July 2019.

Hamleys stores are famous for their carnival-like experience, allowing children to race cars, enjoy model sets and play various games.

3. International Fashion and lifestyle brands

Reliance Brands started building its international and domestic brand equity in 2007, and now the company’s portfolio includes more than 35 international brands, some of whom have their largest markets in the country.

Brands owned in partnership with Reliance Industries include well-known names like:

Armani Exchange, Bottega Veneta, Burberry, Canali, Coach, DC, Diesel, Dune, Emporio Armani, Gas, Giorgio Armani, Hugo Boss, Hunkemoller, Iconix, Jimmy Choo, Kate Spade New York, Michael Kors, Marks & Spencer, Mothercare, Paul & Shark, Pottery Barn, Pottery Barn Kids, Replay, Roxy, Salvatore Ferragamo, Steve Madden, Superdry, Scotch & Soda, Villeroy & Boch, and West Elm.

Along with these and many more, RBL entered into a partnership with renowned jewelry brand Tiffany & Co. to get its magnificent jewelry to India. It has its first official store in New Delhi

4. Startup companies and Other brands

Learning enabler- EdCast, Edtech startup- Embibe, 5G Architecture- Radsys, Entertainment houses- Eros and Balaji Telefilms, broadband services- Hathway, Language processing- Haptik and Reverie, Fashion and shopping – Fynd, Zivame and Clovia, logistics company- Grab and AR/VR-Tesseract.

While we all know that Reliance Industries has business interests in myriad sectors, its notable businesses include, service concept stores, in-store brands, textiles, Reliance BP Mobility, Petroleum, Polymers, chemicals and polyesters.
