Spill The Sass aka our very favorite Dolly Singh- one of the most followed and buzzing influencers in the recent times has come a long way. From a middle class budding influencer from Nainital to acting in Netflix, Dolly Singh has definitely made it to the epitome of success.
Her simplicity and candid attitude towards life and its portrayal on social media is what has made her stand out from the crowd. Most of her content goes viral because she does not project herself as flawless or perfect, her videos are basically a reflection of our daily, day-to-day, mundane life which makes us relate to her on a different level. Recently she gifted her parents a house in their hometown which she generously portrays as an act of thanks giving to her parents and covering up for the ‘mistakes’ she has made in life.
A topper in school, her parents and teachers were rather ‘shocked’ when Dolly decided to take up Humanities for higher education. Dolly attributes this decision to being inspired by Robert Frost’s famous poem The Road Not Taken. In her initial years she started off as fashion blogger where she started putting up fashion related content on different social media platforms. When Dolly started studying for masters in NIFT, within a few weeks she realized that it’s not something that she wants to pursue or do for the rest of her life but somehow Dolly managed to complete it. During her two years at NIFT, Dolly continued her fashion blogging with great consistency. In fact she used to wake up at 4.00 in the morning to do a photoshoot for her blog and then immediately ran to attend her classes at 9.00. Initially, when Dolly started her blog she did not have much money to buy expensive clothes but because of her passion and love for fashion, she does not give up and keeps doing it. During the second year of her masters, Dolly was asked to do an internship as a part of her college project. So Dolly tried for an internship at iDiva as a styling and writing intern which she got through. After completing the internship, iDiva offered her a job. While all of Dolly’s classmates and friends we’re choosing well-paying jobs in the corporate sector Dolly decided to stick with iDiva even though the job was not paying that well. After sometime iDiva decided to make videos but they were facing difficulty in forming a team so all the girls including Dolly were asked to act in front of the camera. Initial days were not very smooth for her but gradually things started to work out. With the iDiva series, “South Delhi Girls” Dolly got great appreciation and recognition all over internet which gradually created a fanbase of her own. On 17 April 2016, she started her own YouTube channel where she entertains her audience with funny videos like “If I were Cinderella” and “If Apple and Android were aunties”, in addition to this she also created a number of epic characters like Raju Ki Mummy, Zeenat Baji, Guddi Bhabi, Mrs. Kapoor, Natasha, Renu and Bubbly that made her audience go all-woah!
Today Dolly is doing fantastic and is blessed with 1.4 Million followers on Instagram and 593k subscribers on YouTube. Rather than that, she is successfully running the show “Raju Ki Mummy Chat Show” on IDiva where she has collaborated with Bollywood stars like Priyanka Chopra, Kangana Ranaut, Sidharth Malhotra, Parineeti Chopra, Sonam Kapoor, and Rajkumar Rao. She was also featured in the Kareena Kapoor’s chat show “What Women Want” along with her best friend Komal Pandey.
As per reports, growing up she always wanted to be someone famous and remarkable, which she undoubtedly has fulfilled in every possible way. She has also been featured in Netflix series Bhaag Beanie Bhaag where she plays the role of Kapi Kapadia, the protagonist’s bestfriend. Growing up she has come across and faced many ups and downs in the form of body shaming and bullying, but despite of all these hindrances she did not stop or give up. She kept going, growing and becoming a better person day by day. Her confidence and strong willpower is what made her what she is today. She carries herself in any form whether it be styling an outfit or playing the bold “Guddu Bhabi” raising up some of the concerning social issues in a witty and comic manner thereby making an effort to bring a social change as well.
Dolly Singh’s story is indeed an inspiration for many. The way she handled all the difficulties in life is a stout example of her strong personality and rigid mindset. She made us all realize that if you believe in yourself and are confident about what you do, you can definitely make your dream come true moment sparkle.
