A lot can be said about a character by the way they are dressed. The costume of an actor in a movie or drama, can give you a lot of know-how about the film, for instance, the character’s profession, the time period in which it is set, or economic status in the movie. Sometimes, even the plot of the film.

Some statement pieces become iconic. Some, are purely remembered for their cinematic value and some become fashion disasters. But all said and done, costumes play a very important part in a film. Designers play a very crucial role in finalizing the look of every character, and are leaving no stone unturned in completing the look of a character, according to the film’s demand, sometimes even raising the film’s budget exponentially.

Let’s take a look at some of the actors who wore the most expensive costumes in Bollywood.

Deepika Padukone in Padmaavat


Deepika Padukone played the role of Queen Padmaavati brilliantly. One of the costliest movies to be made, the costume worn by her in the song ‘Ghoomar’ alone, weighed 3o kgs and reportedly cost around a whopping Rs 30 lakhs.

Deepika Padukone in Bajirao Mastani

Sanjay Leela Bhansali tops the list of big budget movie directors. With a strong aesthetic sense, he makes sure that each character in his movie is recognized distinctly. Deepika’s costumes in the film alone costed more than Rs 50 lakhs that gave the character an elegant as well as a warrior-like look.

Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai in Jodha Akbar


A classy film with an elegant love story as its plot, Jodha Akbar is a visual treat. Each outfit wore by Aishwarya Rai in the movie costed Rs 2 lakhs each. Even Hrithik Roshan wore a particular costume in the movie which was for Rs 12 lakhs. Along with multiple other awards, Neeta Lulla was awarded with a National Award that year for best costume, for this movie.

Shah Rukh Khan in Ra.One

Every bodysuit worn by Shah Rukh Khan came at an incredible Rs 4.5 crore and approximately 20 such suits were worn by him in the entire movie. That amounts to nearly Rs 100 crores. With such a massive budget for costumes alone, the film was the costliest one ever made at the time of its release

Another movie from the Bhansali camp, each outfit in the movie cost an impressive Rs 15 lakhs. The costume worn by Madhuri Dixit in the song ‘Maar daala’ has gained iconic status.

Akshay Kumar in Singh Is Bling


The turban worn by Akshay Kumar for the movie poster costed Rs 65 lakhs alone.

Salman Khan in Veer

Salman Khan played the role of a warrior in the movie Veer and each costume worn by him costed around Rs 20 lakhs

Sonakshi Sinha in ‘Tevar’


The lehenga worn by Sonakshi Sinha in the song ‘Radha Nachegi’ in the movie cost Rs 75 lakhs.

Kangana Ranaut in Krrish 3

Talking about costumes, the latex suits worn by Kangana in the movie cost around 1 crore for 10 of them, the material of which sourced from Paris.

All of these costumes and many others prove to be vital in remembering the movies in which they were used distinctly.
