This Town In Italy Is Selling Houses For Rs 90

| Published on May 2, 2021

Buying your dream house has always been on the top of the to-do list for many of us. However, the onset of the pandemic might have made the dream harder to fulfill. People have been struggling to make a decent living post the pandemic let alone being able to save up for a future house.

But it seems, it may not be as difficult to buy that dream house in the most beautiful destination after all. As per recent news, another Sicilian town of Italy is putting up houses for sale at the price of a cup of coffee. Castiglione di Sicilia, a town on the slopes of Mount Etna, near chic Taormina and the beaches of Sicily’s east coast, has around 900 abandoned homes up for grab.

Out of the 900 houses, half of them are ruined and not in good conditions and will be given away at a symbolic price of €1 (Rs.90). While the rest are in better condition and will be sold off not a very expensive price but between the range of €4,000- €5,000 (Rs 3.5 Lakhs to Rs 4.5 Lakhs approximately).

While talking about the €1 houses, Mayor Antonino Camarda has explained the reason behind selling the house at such a low price. He said that the town has a huge architectural heritage to rescue, packed with history. Over time, too many people have left, leaving behind a bunch of old, picturesque houses, many even dating back to the Renaissance which definitely holds a lot of value.

In fact, this is not the first time that an Italian town is selling its houses at such a low rate. Earlier Salemi and Bisaccia, other Italian towns, have also sold their houses at considerably low prices.

So what do you think? Are you ready to buy a house in one of these abandoned towns?
