Today we bring you a list of CEOs of Indian origin who have been heading the global companies.
1. Arvind Krishna
On 30 Jan 2020, International Business Machines Corp. (IBM) appointed Arvind Krishna as the company’s chief executive officer. Arvind Krishna was born in Bandapuram village, West Godavari District of Andhra Pradesh, India, to an army officer.
Krishna joined IBM in 1990, rising to become senior vice president for IBM’s cloud and cognitive software. He is credited as leading IBM’s acquisition of Red Hat for US$34 billion in 2018.
He was appointed to become IBM CEO on January 31, 2020, succeeding Ginni Rometty who had served as CEO since 2012.
2. Sundar Pichai
Sundar Pichai, is an Indian American business executive, the chief executive officer of Alphabet Inc. and it’s subsidiary Google LLC. Pichai began his career as a materials engineer and joined Google as a management executive in 2004.
He rose to become the company’s Product Chief, then Google‘s CEO in 2015, as part of the restructuring process that made Alphabet Inc. into Google’s parent company. In December 2019, he additionally became CEO of Alphabet Inc.
3. Shantanu Narayen
Shantanu Narayen is an Indian American business executive and the chairman and CEO of Adobe Inc. Prior to this, he had been the president and chief operating officer since 2005.
He started his career at Apple. After Apple, Narayen served as director of desktop and collaboration products for Silicon Graphics, then co-founded Pictra Inc. a company that pioneered the concept of digital photo sharing over the Internet.
Narayen joined Adobe in 1998 as a senior vice-president of worldwide product research was later promoted to executive vice president of worldwide products, and appointed to his current post in November 2007 at the age of 45.
4. Satya Nadella
Satya Narayana Nadella is an Indian American business executive. He is the chief executive officer of Microsoft, succeeding Steve Ballmer in 2014. Before becoming CEO, he was the executive vice president of Microsoft‘s cloud and enterprise group, responsible for building and running the company’s computing platforms.
5. Ajay Banga
Ajay Singh Banga is an Indian-American business executive. He is the president and chief executive officer of Mastercard.
In February 2015, then-President Barack Obama appointed Banga to serve as a member of the President’s Advisory Committee for Trade Policy and Negotiations.
6. Rajeev Suri
Rajeev Suri is an Indian–Singaporean business executive and the CEO of Nokia. Before the current assignment in May 2016, he was the CEO of Nokia Solutions and Networks from 2015 and held various positions in Nokia since 1995.
On 29 April 2014, Suri was appointed as the CEO of Nokia. This was after Nokia had bought back full control of NSN and sold Nokia’s phone division to Microsoft Mobile. Suri is the second non-Finnish CEO of Nokia after Stephen Elop.
7. Francisco D’Souza
Francisco D’Souza is an Indian American entrepreneur and businessman, who is the former CEO and Vice Chairman of Cognizant — a Fortune 200 global professional services company — co-founded the NASDAQ-100 company in 1994.
He succeeded Lakshmi Narayanan as the CEO in 2007 and in 2018 was appointed Vice Chairman, while continuing his role as the CEO till 1 April 2019.
