Recently, Anand Mahindra, India’s beloved industrialist, shared a tweet in which he can be seen praising Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella.

The tweet was followed by the news where Microsoft claimed that it would become ‘carbon negative’ by 2030.

Bravo @satyanadella When I announced the intention of @MahindraRise to be carbon neutral by 2040—10 years ahead of the deadline—I thought we were being bold. You have raised the bar for us all… https://t.co/7QOEoe5xqT

Satya Nadella also shared a tweet while announcing the company’s plan for becoming carbon negative.

We have a responsibility to ensure that our actions and the products we build benefit everyone on the planet – and the planet itself. That’s why today we are making new commitments to address climate change. https://t.co/CzpeUpVhzs

In January 2019, Microsoft became carbon neutral by cutting down on its emissions. Besides becoming carbon negative by 2030, Microsoft also plans to remove “all of the carbon” it has emitted since 1975, the company’s launch year.

Satya Nadella

The company is planning to cut down 16 Mn metric tonnes of carbon, which is equivalent to15 coal-fired power plants, in 2020. The company also added that the carbon dioxide can cost up to $600 per ton, costing up to $9.6 Bn to remove this year’s emissions alone.

Microsoft will be spending close to $1 Bn over the next four years. The company plans to spend this money on innovation that will help in reducing, capturing and removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

Chief Executive Satya Nadella said at a media event at Microsoft‘s headquarters in Redmond, Washington, “If the last decade has taught us anything, it’s that technology built without these principles can do more harm than good.”

Microsoft has also urged people to adopt more negative emission technology as it will help it become cheaper. They cited an example of solar energy which has now become cheaper due to the same reason. The cost of solar energy technology fell from $30 per watt to $1 per watt.

Recently, Satya Nadella also garnered a lot of attention in the Indian market for his tweet regarding the growing tensions around the new Citizenship Amendment Act and NRC. But with this new initiative, Nadella will surely bring the people around.
