Sunil Kumaran has been appointed Director – Strategic Initiatives at Bennett, Coleman & Co (BCCL). In his new role, he has been responsible for driving strategic initiatives across the organisation, with a focus on long-term growth opportunities, new business areas and cross-platform initiatives aligned with BCCL’s evolving media portfolio.
Kumaran has shared the development on LinkedIn, where he has updated his profile to reflect his new role at BCCL, indicating that he has taken on the position in December 2025.
Prior to this appointment, Kumaran has served as Chief Executive Officer at Reliance Broadcast Network from August 2025 to December 2025, after having held the role of Chief Operating Officer at the company between April 2022 and July 2025. Before rejoining Reliance, he has worked as Country Head at THWINK from May 2018 to April 2022, where he has focused on driving growth through audio and digital content, data-led content strategies, podcasts, influencer marketing and purpose-driven initiatives. Between December 2015 and May 2018, he was Country Head at The StoryLab, Dentsu Aegis Network, overseeing content strategy, production and distribution for brands and advertisers.
Earlier in his career, Kumaran has spent over seven years at Reliance Broadcast Network from October 2010 to November 2015 as Business Head, where he has led a portfolio of television channels and overseen revenue, content planning, distribution and marketing, and also served as Business Head for Karnataka and Kerala between February 2008 and September 2010. He has previously worked as Senior Media Director at Universal McCann from May 2005 to February 2008, Vice President – Media at Rediffusion DY&R from November 2001 to April 2005, and Strategic Planning Head at indya.com from August 2000 to October 2001. His early career has included stints as Media Director at Lowe and Partners Worldwide from January 1999 to August 2000 and JWT from 1996 to December 1998, and as Media Supervisor at Saatchi & Saatchi Advertising between 1994 and 1996.
