Zomato, a Gurugram based startup that has dominated the Indian food business for a while now, had hit a bump in the road a while back.
What was the issue?
With the current pace of communication via social media, nothing stays hidden. So, when someone posted a video of a Zomato delivery executive, it went viral. The video had the man-eating food from the order that he was supposed to be delivering. This not only highlighted the problem of safety of food delivery but also the reliability of these delivery executives. Moreover, it also sparked a debate about the pay to these workers and why did they choose to eat out of order.
What is the latest development?
Zomato decided to work on its food safety and delivery protocol. They tried a new plan in 40 restaurants in Gurugram itself and have now decided to extend it to 5000 partner restaurants in 10 cities including Delhi and Mumbai. Mohit Gupta, CEO of Zomato Food delivery, said that they will extend the plan to further 25 cities by April 2019.
What is the plan?
They have decided to add a Tamper proof packaging system to delivery orders. The restaurant will seal the food and it can only be opened by cutting off a top-end strip. So customers can check their order for any damages at the time of delivery. Moreover, the app will feature a ‘100% SAFETY SEALED’ badge for such restaurants that have this service active to allow customers to know and be aware.

A little late but this step towards a better ‘eating’ environment taken by Zomato is definitely a plus one to its service and customer loyalty.
