The statistics..

Wipro reports suggest that the company is seeing a want for smart lighting solutions for both offices and Smart City projects. And the company wants to grow on this. Currently, the lighting business accounts for 26% of Wipro’s $1 Billion Consumer Care and Lighting business. and Wipro is going all in by expanding its product portfolio to products specifically designed for these, like sensor and LoT-based solutions. The company is focusing on the market size of commercial lighting both indoors and outdoors which is said to have a market size of Rs.7,000-Rs. 8,000 crore.

Partnerships and more..

Wipro announced partnerships with other major companies to grow its portfolio. These include Schreder, a brand that Wipro partnered with for loT-based solutions for its Smart City and Smart Campuses projects. These could also be used as hubs to collect and transport data for a lot of services throughout the city. A senior employee of the company was quoted saying that Power over Ethernet (PoE) solutions are gaining more audience and demand in foreign countries like the UK, and the US. Wipro has tried to develop some pilot products in India to increase interest so as to create demand.

Wipro is also collaborating with Cisco on this project to introduce connected lighting solutions as it is a safer and better option of connected lights which will incorporate sensor-based solutions as well.

The only thing left is to see how it all is incorporated in India’s future for a green and smart country.
