Top 10 Philanthropists In India Acc. To Hurun Philanthropy List 2021

The EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2021 is out and all those who have donated INR 5 crore and more are featured in it. This is the eight edition of the list and is on the basis of all donations made between 1st April 2020 to 31st March 2021.

Azim Premji has retained the top spot for the second consecutive year. The 76-year-old philanthropist’s donations are more than 8 times the second-place holder’s and almost 85 times the tenth-place holder. He has donated a massive INR 9713 crore in this year, that is almost INR 27 crore per day! He has majorly donated towards areas of education.

Shiv Nadar emerged as the second top philanthropist this year with a majority of his INR1263 crore in donations going towards the cause of preservation of Arts, Culture and Heritage. India’s richest man Mukesh Ambani has made donations worth INR 577 crore and has become the third most giving Indian this year

Kumar Mangalam Birla has contributed primarily towards the healthcare system in the country and with donations amounting to INR 377 crore he is fourth on the list. Followed by Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani who has donated INR 183 crore this year primarily towards societal thinking.

The Hinduja family are the sixth biggest donors in the country this year with donations of INR 166 crore majorly going towards the sector of education. Next, is the Bajaj family that have given INR 136 crore in donations to bag the seventh spot and Gautam Adani and Vedanta’s Anil Agarwal follow suit becoming eight and ninth highest donors, both primarily donating towards disaster relief. The Burman Family of Dabur is the tenth highest givers with INR114 crore, majorly towards healthcare.

Some new names have also featured in the list this year with Amitabh Bachchan donating INR 15 crore this year. Another new entrant is Nikhil Kamath of stock brokerage company Zerodha, who has pledged INR 750 crore towards new initiatives that can tackle the problem of climate change. He is the youngest philanthropist at 35 years of age.

There is a sizeable number of women to be featured on the list too. Of them, Rohini Nilekani tops the list, donating INR 69 crore, followed by Leena Tewari who has donated INR 24 crore.
