After a viral video of lime juice being prepared in unhygienic conditions came to the fore, the Central Railway has now banned the sale of syrup based artificial juices at all stations at Mumbai.

The Lime Juice Nightmare

No one could ever imagine that even lime juice could turn into a nightmare for the vendors at Mumbai Railway Stations. Well, it’s just a repercussion of the very few vendors that now all the other vendors have to suffer from the ban.

However, we can’t really deny that it was a massive expose, where the common people have played an exceptional role as a watchdog. Further the fact that a decision has been taken by the Central Railway to ban all these vendors who sell the juices in unhygienic conditions, for the safety of the common people, is commendable.

What actually happened?

A vendor at Kurla railway station was seen using water from an overhead tank for washing his hands and then using the same water for making the lime juice, stirring the syrup with his bare hands. A video was apparently recorded, which went viral over the internet.

The Aftermath

The video has been shot by the commuters at the Kurla railway station, where it can be seen, how the man prepared the lime juice in an absolutely unhygienic manner. After that, the canteen or store was sealed by the Railway department.

Now post this, legit decisions have been taken by the Railways to ban all syrup based juices that are sold on the railway stations. The Central Railway has issued instructions and directions to all these vendors that they have to stop the sale of all kinds of artificial syrup based juices, with immediate effect.

The Central railway’s Principal Chief Commercial Manager, Shailendra Kumar told that the ban does not include fresh juices made by crushing fruits. He exclaimed that the Central railway would not be able to deploy staff on every station to monitor the juice-making process and the use of water in it, so it has issued instructions and directions to all these vendors that they have to stop the sale of all kinds of artificial syrup based juices, with immediate effect.
