Raj Nayak Steps Down As Viacom’s COO, After A 7 Year Stint

Raj Nayak, COO, Viacom 18 has quit from his position and the media house has confirmed the same. He had joined Viacom seven years ago as CEO and was elevated to COO last year in May. Earlier this year, his role was to lead the revenue portfolio for the channels broadcast business.

As per industry sources, the recent reshuffling in the organization could have been one of the reasons for Nayak to take this decision.

“Raj is one of the most admired leaders in the media and entertainment industry. While on one hand, it is our loss to see a committed and capable leader leave, on the other, it is reassuring to know that he will always keep Viacom18’s flag flying high,” said Sudhanshu Vats, group chief executive officer and managing director designate, Viacom18, in a statement. “On a personal level, I would like to thank Raj for partnering me as Viacom18 scaled newer heights. On behalf of everyone at Viacom18, I’d like to wish Raj all the very best for his future endeavors.”

Nayak’s Journey

Nayak has played a significant role in making shows like Naagin and Big Boss popular for so many years amongst the many other. His experience of several years in the media industry brought a lot of value to Colors as a channel and his hard work cannot be ignored. Prior to joining Viacom, he had set up an independent media consulting and sales & marketing firm Aidem Ventures. Before this, he was the CEO of NDTV. He was also the Executive Vice President with Star TV Network for 10 years

“The last seven-and-a-half years at Viacom18 have been most exciting, challenging and rewarding. I have a wonderful team and they helped propel the company to new heights. The Viacom18 leadership has always been supportive and for that, I will always be grateful. These are exciting times for the media industry, the pace of change is remarkable, and I feel energized about the opportunity to do something new in this new landscape,” said Nayak in a statement.

He will be serving at Viacom till February 2019. Where does Raj Nayak head next be yet to be disclosed. We hope he continues enriching the media industry with his experience and hard work, whatever role he may choose.
