The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has removed 5,20,042 political ads from its 12 zones in compliance with the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) for the Lok Sabha elections.
As per reports, this information is as per an official document. The advertising mediums included hoardings, posters, banners, wall paintings, signage, and flags, it stated.
The 12 zones of MCD where the advertisements were removed include Rohini Zone, City SP Zone, Civil Lines Zone, Karol Bagh Zone, Narela Zone, Keshavpuram Zone, South Zone, West Zone, Najafgarh Zone, Central Zone, Shahadara North Zone, and Shahadara South Zone after EC’s guideline to all states to remove any political advertisements in their region. Apparently, the EC had also asked for a compliance report over the same.
When elections are scheduled, MCC comes into play. Under its constitutional authority to uphold the integrity of elections, ECI has evolved the MCC, establishing norms for political parties and candidates with the aim of fostering a fair and transparent electoral process, thus ensuring a “level playing field”.
For the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, MCC came into force on March 16 with ECI announcing the schedule for the elections and it will remain in effect until the election results are declared. Delhi will vote on May 25 in the sixth phase of the seven-phase electoral process.
