Indian telecom industry is facing the heat of competition between the two big names in the Indian market. According to Jio, Airtel is misleading its consumers with free subscription ads for which the users are actually paying for.
Jio alleged that Airtel ads are deceptive and aimed at attracting new customers by showing them the offer of free IPL subscription. Delhi court has considered the complaint that has been registered by Jio and Airtel has been told to make some changes in this campaign.
Jio’s representative pointed out that Airtel users are paying for the data consumption plus for the monthly rental package that the company is selling for watching IPL matches. Also, the subscriber has to pay for any extra data consumption above the limited package provides. You can watch Airtel’s ad below:
Airtel has replied to this plea and has said that Jio is a jealous competitor and Airtel meant to provide free subscriptions to Hotstar to which court’s order won’t have a major impact.
Both Jio and Airtel know the importance of IPL and are betting big on this event due to the estimated 700 million viewers for which content-driven partnerships are being used to obtain maximum profits including the deal with video streaming platform Hotstar for live coverage.
