That day now doesn’t seem too far when across the country everyone will be able to enjoy internet without any partial speed based fees. Internet neutrality that requires all service providers to treat Internet traffic equally and doesn’t allow any discrimination in slowing down or granting preferential speeds has finally been given a nod by the government.
Licenses with all service providers will be amended with immediate effect.
Critical services like remote surgery and autonomous vehicles may be exempted from these rules as in those cases the Internet speed really matters.
These rules were proposed by TRAI back in November, which have now been approved by the Department of Telecom.
However, Rajan Mathews, Director General of The Cellular Operators Association of India has a different point of view, he said,
“Many 5G applications will have stringent data communication requirements which require traffic management techniques,”
and hence they have requested the government to review these practices with respect to 5G enabled application services.
Well let’s see when this all gets implemented and the common man gets to enjoy internet neutrality freely.
