We all know that hype Ikea has created with its launch in India. The first day saw a gathering of over 40,000 people in the store as everyone was curious to see why Ikea is so popular in the furniture industry. There was a stampede which led the traffic police to deploy some extra officials to tackle the chaotic situation.
For those who don’t know why Ikea is creating so much buzz, you can click here and get some information. Currently, Ikea is offering 7500 products among which 1000 products are below Rs 200. This attracted Indians to buy products in heavy quantities and Ikea has even broken records with its first day sales.
The store managed to earn a whopping Rs 2.4 crore till lunch and Rs 6 crore for the entire day, as reported by Economic Times.
A leading marketer Mahesh Murthy’s tweet proves the claim:
Apparently @IKEA India did Rs. 2.4 crores (US$350,000) before lunch today in Hyderabad, including it seems Rs.11 lakhs in food. Might make it India's no.1 restaurant, among other records 🙂 pic.twitter.com/JphFKwUQuA

The figures have certainly created a history and has set some tough target for other brands. Even the restaurant alone earned Rs. 11 lakhs. If these numbers continue like this, IKEA’s restaurant too might become number 1 in India in terms of sales.
Competitors have already started to feel the heat as Kishore Biyani’s HomeTown came up with an ambushing marketing technique to take on Ikea. It will be interesting to see Ikea reacts to this as the company itself is known for its innovative marketing practices around the world.
