Why Do Smartphones Cover Turns Yellow?

The most common reason for the case to turn yellow is its constant exposure to sunlight & heat. A polymer called silicone is used to manufacture the TPU case. With time the quality of the case degrades and turns the case color yellowish which is an irreversible phenomenon. The UV light from the sun reacts with the chemical composition, changing its color.

Another reason behind the transformation is the sweat and oil secretions from the hands and face causes an oxidizing reaction which changes it to yellow.

One Quora post even suggested that the cases are naturally yellow and have a blue dye added to it to give it a transparent look. With time the dye effect wears-off and the natural yellow color comes out.
