Google Helps Small Traders By Allowing Anyone To Sell Products on Google Shopping For Free

| Published on April 23, 2020

Undoubtedly, COVID-19 pandemic is a tough time for humanity. But like everything, it shall pass too. To help the small business community, Google has decided to open its platform ‘Google Shopping’ for everyone. Now, anyone can list and sell products online on Google Shopping for free.

Those who do not know about Google Shopping, it is a platform that allows merchants to sell online. It is a paid platform, and when you search on Google, most of the listings on Google Shopping are generally of big e-commerce platforms or popular brands. But now, anyone can list and sell online.

The information is shared with the public by Google’s Commerce President, Bill Ready, in a blogpost. He revealed the reason behind this move is to help local merchants in the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Most of the world is facing the wrath of the COVID-19 pandemic. And due to lockdown, merchants are not able to sell their merchandise. Above all, there is a huge demand for non-essential items like beauty care products, apparel, and toys, and merchants have merchandise that they are not able to sell.

So by allowing merchants to list for free on Google Shopping, they will be able to sell their merchandise to consumers.

Bill Ready informed in the blogpost that currently this move is valid only for the U.S territory, and the necessary changes in the Google Algorithm will pan out by the end of April. By the end of the year, sellers across the globe will be able to list and sell for free on Google Shopping.

To make it possible, Google is working closely with PayPal to help merchants link their accounts.

This move by Google is a win-win situation both for consumers and merchants. Consumers will have more options to choose from while merchants will be able to revive their business.
