| Published on August 27, 2020

It is safe to say, that like all others, Laziness is also a talent. Not many people have it. And the ones who are lazy can’t seem to get over it. It is all fun and games until you need to work a regular job for a living. Laziness can be quite a challenge then.

But what if we told you that you could get paid for having no ambition at all. Crazy right? But it’s true… All the ‘lazy’ may rejoice as someone has shown a keen interest in them.

As reported by The Guardian, University of Fine Arts in Hamburg, Germany is working on a project which aims at examining laziness and the lack of ambition in people. The University has advertised three scholarship places amounting to €1,600 each.

The applicants need to submit their anonymous pitches until 15 September and if selected will have to convince a jury that their chosen area of “active inactivity” is relevant to the University’s project.

The application form consists of only four questions: What do you not want to do? For how long do you not want to do it? Why is it important not to do this thing in particular? Why are you the right person not to do it? Applicants will be free to determine the length of their inactivity. However, not everyone can apply for this. As per the rules & regulations, the applicants can only be from Germany.

Friedrich von Borries, an architect, and design theorist, who is also the brains behind the project believe that the experiment may not be as easy as it may sound. He also shared that the idea behind this project came from a discussion about ‘the seeming contradiction of a society that promotes sustainability while simultaneously valuing success’.

He said,

This scholarship programme is not a joke but an experiment with serious intentions – how can you turn a society that is structured around achievements and accomplishments on its head?

It will be interesting to see the results of the said project as it may give a way to live sustainably within the society without overconsuming our crucial resources.
