| Published on August 27, 2021

Owing to the number of festivals as well as second and fourth Saturdays coming up in the month of September this year, as well as weekly offs (Sundays), banks will stay closed for up to 12 days. However, this is definitely dependent on the festival being celebrated in any state and is thus subjective in nature.

Of these, RBI has issued a list of bank holidays that are based on state-wise leaves, religious events as well as festival celebrations. There are a total of 6 weekends in the month and that itself constitutes 12 holidays in the month. Although, there is an overlap between the second Saturday and a leave which is mandated by the RBI that takes place on September 11.

These leaves must definitely be considered while planning on any vacation that you are considering. In the entire month, one holiday, that of Ganesh Chaturthi will be observed largely across all states as the festival is celebrated with much pomp by all citizens of the country. These cities include Ahmedabad, Belapur, Bengaluru, Bhubaneshwar, Chennai, Hyderabad, Nagpur, Panaji and the financial capital of the country, Mumbai.

The second day of Ganesh Chaturthi sees the overlap with the second Saturday which is only an off for banks in Panaji. The official list of holidays issued by the Reserve Bank of India is observed from the 8th of September. These holidays will end with Sree Narayana Guru Samadhi Day on September 21st which will be celebrated in Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram. However, 25th and 26th of September will also observe holidays as it is a weekend. Find the list of all RBI holidays mandated for the month of September below:
