Ever Wondered Why School Buses Are Always Painted With Yellow Colour? Here Is The Reason

| Published on November 16, 2018

Colours are an important aspect of marketing as they play a crucial role in attracting the attention of the audience towards a product or brand. In the past, we have strategies behind using different colors in How Different Colors Tell A Lot About Marketing Of The Brand, Why Beer Bottles Are Brown Or Green In Colour? and Know Why Most Fast-Food Logos Are Red & Yellow.

Today we are sharing a similar strategy that school buses opt behind picking the yellow colour. All the school and college buses are painted yellow and it is not just a coincidence or yellow is used to make the buses look beautiful only.

So, Why Are School And College Buses Painted With Yellow Colour?

The major reason behind this is yellow has the tendency for getting faster attention compared to other colours. When you look straight ahead while driving or walking, you can see a yellow object that is not even in front of you and is “in the corners of your eyes”. Yellow even beats the colour red in terms of gathering attention. Scientists describe this as “Lateral peripheral vision for detecting yellows is 1.24 times greater than for red.”

Because school buses are full of children and their safety is something that authorities can’t risk or ignore. Yellow colour helps people see the buses even in foggy situations and avoids accidents as school buses travel during morning times.

Apart from this, the yellow is also used for earth-moving, road-building vehicles which are placed in dangerous places to drive. This is done so that others can recognise them and not collide during night time.
